Study Questions

As it is a joint gathering this week, there are two sets of questions for you to use, whether you are exploring God’s word within your Life Group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.

A. DISCUSSION STARTERS

These are simple questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk (ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group):

  1. What particularly struck you during Judy’s talk? Which aspects connected most with you? Why?

  2. What did you find difficult, or didn’t understand during the talk? Or what did you disagree with?

  3. What things might you try to change or live out, as a result of the talk?

B. QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE

These are questions that are based on the talk and the surrounding themes:

  1. Do you like a lot of salt with your food? What do you find salt does to food?

  2. Read Matthew 5:13. What strikes you about this verse? What point do you think Jesus is trying to make?

  3. NT Wright says that ‘Jesus himself, as the gospel story goes on to its dramatic conclusion, lives out the same message of the sermon on the mount.  He is the salt of the earth. He loves His enemies and gives His life for them. He is lifted on a hill so that the world can see.’ In what way is Jesus the salt of the earth?

  4. Read Romans 12:9-10, 21. What might this look like today?

  5. In the talk, Judy invited us to, ‘…do the natural and routine things spiritually, and do the spiritual things naturally and routinely”. What could this look like in your life?

  6. Read Colossians 4:6. What does ‘salty’ conversation look and sound like?!

  7. Take some time to pray, asking that God would help you to be salt this week.

Coming Soon … but by popular demand here is the quote that Judy used in her talk:

“The dream of God over your life is not that you become a believer and help out the church, the dream over your life is that you come alive in His presence and bring life to every environment, spilling contagious hope into hurting humanity. God has entrusted believers with an assignment to lead the earth to life.”
