WORD OF HANDS

YOU MIGHT BE THINKING, WHAT IS WORD OF HANDS?

IT’S A CHRISTIAN SERVICE FOR USERS OF BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE (BSL). WE MEET AT RIVERSIDE HOUSE ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH.

Each service starts at 11am and finishes at 12:30pm. You can arrive early from 10:30am which gives you time to say hello and socialise before being seated, ready for the service to start at 11:00am.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE SERVICE?

It’s an opportunity to come together for fellowship, to worship our loving father and to pray together. The sermon is based on a theme from the bible and is shared in BSL with voiceover available which means there is full access for everyone both deaf and hearing, all are welcome.

WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN?

We provide a Sunday school. We have eight groups that cater for children aged 3-14 years old. We have volunteers who will teach and help look after your children in the Sunday school, so you can bring them with you and leave them there while you enjoy the adult service yourselves.

At 12:30pm, when the service has ended, you have the opportunity to stay for refreshments, meet new people, make new friends and socialise before going home.

WORD OF HANDS - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

The sign ‘word’ is linked to sign language as the bible is shared through our hands. The sign ‘hands’ is linked to access, sharing God’s word through BSL and making it accessible to all.

Word of Hands believes in unity meaning that the hearing and deaf, adults and children, men and women, as well as people from different cultural backgrounds, can come together and be fully inclusive. At Word of Hands, we believe we are all one in Christ. It’s a place where you can be part of a fantastic experience of love, encouragement and growth that you can then share with others.
