BIBLE PASSAGES: Read online
James | Chapter 3 | Verses 13-18
How do you cultivate Godly wisdom in your life? With the internet and world of social media we have information and knowledge at the ends of our finger tips now more than ever however, as Charles Spurgeon said “wisdom is the right use of knowledge”. James looks at the difference between the knowledge we can gain from the world in comparison to the life-changing wisdom that comes from God.
Bible Study Questions
Each week there are TWO different sets of questions for you to use, whether you are exploring the Bible within your Life Group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.
A | DISCUSSION STARTERS
These are simple questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk (ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group):
1 | Was there anything that particularly helped you during the talk?
2 | Was there anything that you didn’t necessarily agree with, or found difficult to understand in the talk?
3 | As a result of the talk, what:
a. Changes do you want to see?
b. Truths do you need to remember?
c. Actions do you need to take?
B | QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE
These are questions that are based on the talk and the surrounding themes:
Read James Chapter 3, verses 13-18
1 | Were there any points that stood out for you from the talk on Sunday? Was there anything you particularly agreed or disagreed with?
2 | Charles Spurgeon said that ‘ godly wisdom is the right use of knowledge’. With this in mind what do you think are the differences between Christlike wisdom and reckless wisdom?
3 | How has James described wisdom previously?
4 | In verses 3:17 James describes what heavenly wisdom looks like. Which parts of this do you find easy and which parts seem more of a struggle/ you’d like to see more of in your life?
5 | What is the similarity that James shows between ‘faith’ and ‘wisdom’? Compare James 3:17 with Galatians 5:22.
6 | Take some time to share about the areas you would currently like to grow in with God’s wisdom in and pray for one another.
As you work thorugh these questions pray for one another to deepen and develop your relationship with Jesus in this year ahead.
