‘BIBLE PASSAGES: Read online
Daniel 4:1-3 (Daniel 4 & 5)

Who is the most powerful person you know? What does it mean to be ‘powerful’? And how can we use that power in a healthy and good way, rather than a destructive, self-centred way?

“We are easily drawn in by energy, drive, charisma and what seems like success. But how can we tell if what we are seeing is healthy, biblical leadership?” (Marcus Honeysett)

“This is the first temptation of power: We view the problem as “out there”…but we ignore the problem in our own hearts….Part of being created in God’s image is having the power to shape the world around us.” (Kyle Strobel and Jamin Goggin)

“With great power comes great responsibility” (Spiderman)

Each week there are TWO different sets of questions for you to use, whether you are exploring the Bible within your Connect Group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.

These are simple questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk (ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group):

1 | Was there anything that particularly helped you during the talk?

2 | Was there anything that you didn’t necessarily agree with, or found difficult to understand in the talk?

3 | As a result of the talk, what:

3a. Changes do you want to see?

3b. Truths do you need to remember?

3c. Actions do you need to take?

These are questions that are based on the talk and the surrounding themes:

  1. Who is the most powerful person you know personally?
  2. How do they exert their power?
  3. Read Danial 4:25. Do you think that this is literal or figurative? (There isn’t a correct answer)
  4. Why did God choose to change Nebuchadnezzar’s heart when he leaves so many other tyrants to their tyranny?
  5. Read Daniel 5:23-24. What did Belshazzar,  Nebuchadnezzar’s son, do that was so bad?
  6. What does it mean to be ‘powerful’?
  7. Read Mathew 7:15-16. How do you think we could know which leaders in power we should trust?
  8. How have you had to use your power in the past?
  9. Pray that God will reveal ways for us to use our power in a healthy and good way, rather than a destructive, self-centred way?

As you explore these questions, pray for one another to deepen and develop your relationship with Jesus.
