Riverside Money Advice Newsbite: The Lottery Win That Never Was

The Lottery win that never was

How would you feel if the one week you didn’t play a certain set of numbers, was the week those numbers came up and won £2.1m?

This was the scenario presented by a client as we talked about a recent bank statement that showed dozens of payments to the National Lottery over the last few weeks. Such was the trauma at having missed out and the loss of such a large sum of money, that ….

NEW TEACHING SERIES - STORY

Join in with our new Teaching Series: ‘Story’: A 12 sessions series that will run from Sunday 3 September to Sunday 19 November. Dont forget to follow the Teaching Series section of this blog for all resources including Life Group Questions, Podcast Links & Youth Resources.

Series Outline

Story:
In his book, ‘The God Desire’, comedian David Baddiel explains why he doesn’t believe in God. As a reason for his unbelief, Baddiel explores the human desire to find meaning in our lives – ‘Humans have a need to organise, to structure, the chaos of existence. They need to feel that life has narrative…God provides all this. He storifies life.’ For Baddiel, this desire for meaning and structure is understandable, but doesn’t make God’s existence any more true.

But, what if the ‘story’ that Baddiel talks about is not a convenient invention to help us navigate disorder and suffering? What if the story of God is as real as the story of our everyday lives? What if they are actually the same story? Join us for a teaching series in the biblical book of Mark, to re-discover the greatest story of all – the story that defines us all.

‘All is not well with the world, but at least God is here in it, with us. We don’t have an argument that solves the problem of the cruel world, but we have a story.’

 (Francis Spufford)

Riverside Pantry - Drivers Needed Urgently

The Riverside Pantry is in urgent need for drivers. Each Wednesday, from September 2023, food will need to be picked up from a warehouse in Nechells.

 # We are looking for 2 volunteers. One person to be a driver and a second person to help collect the food.

# It is preferable for the driver to have access to their own car that has a big boot.

# We are looking to set up a team of drivers.

If you think you can help please contact:

Evening Services: 6:30PM

Evening services now take place at Riverside House (6:30pm to 7:45pm).

# Why are we doing this?
Our intention is that these evening services will provide space for more people to gather and attend in-person, to encounter Jesus and form community.

# What will they look like?
The evening services will look and feel very similar to our morning services. However, the room layout will provide a more open relaxed space to be together for worship and fellowship. Jus like our 11.30am services, our evening services will not be livestreamed and there wont be any additional groups for kids or youth.

# When?
These will be every Sunday apart from the first Sunday of the month. The pattern therefore will be:

– 1st Sunday – Tally Ho Gathering in the morning (9.30am) & Prayer & Worship Gathering at Riverside House in the evening (8pm).

– All other Sundays in the month: Gatherings in the morning (9:30am and 11:30am) and evening (6.30pm); both at Riverside House.

Note: Prayer & Worship Gatherings will therefore be changing to the first Sunday of the month.
