Sun 6 NoVEMBER - Christmas EXTRAVAGANZA REHEARSALS

Rehearsals for this year’s special community carol services (Christmas Extravaganza) start on Sunday, 6 November, at Riverside House (see timings below). Whether or not you were able to make the open workshop in October, it is not too late to get involved. We’d love you to come and join the choir, dance or drama teams as we have fun rehearsing in preparation for the services at Tally Ho on Sunday, 4th December. No previous experience is required.

Choir 3:30 to 5:30pm
Drama 4:30 to 6 pm
Dance from 4:30 to 6 pm

No need to sign-up; turn up on the day and feel free to invite your friends and family along as a brilliant way of connecting them to our Riverside community. All ages and abilities included. We suggest people aged 11 or more can join the drama or dance teams. Children from year 3 in school can get involved with the choir at parents’/carers’ discretion. We encourage you to aim to make the majority of rehearsals.

As we shared at the open workshop, our hope as we come together across our Riverside community is that through our church community, creativity and worship, we will make the good news the angels announced at Christmas known. Whether or not you can join us for rehearsals, please pray and consider who you can invite to the services on the 4th of December.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with James (Choir), Judy (Drama) and Ado (Dance) if you have any questions about getting involved.

HIDING PLACE: SECOND SINGLE BY BEN PEARSON

Hiding Place is the second single from worship leader Ben Pearson’s upcoming EP with Riverside Music. This song encourages us to move beyond the noise of everyday life into a space where we can encounter God’s love and our true identity as His child. The song reminds the listener of the truth that God will never leave them and that even in the storms of fear and anxiety, He is their place of safety.

Are You Invisible?

Are You Invisible?

We encourage everyone who has a ‘My ChurchSuite’ account to add their photo (especially useful for newcomers) and to check that they are not ‘invisible’ to other church members. When you login to your account you may see a message that says ‘Your current privacy settings prevent others from seeing any of your details in My ChurchSuite’.

Being Invisible Means That…

# Your name will not show on any rotas that you serve on, or the underlying ministry’s team member list – neither you, nor your fellow rota members and ministry overseers will see your name on the rota, and they will not be able to contact you.
# Your name will not show on any small group member lists that you belong to – neither you, nor your fellow group members and leaders will see your name in the group’s member list, and they will not be able to contact you.
# You will not be able to use the rota or small group Email functionality – to send or receive group emails, meaning you may miss out on important communications.

How To Update Your Privacy Setting & Upload Your Photo:

# Simply login to your ‘My ChurchSuite’ account and head to the ‘My Details’ section.
# This is a great time to review and update your details, perhaps adding any missing information.
# Further instructions can be found here.

Your Data Is In Safe Hands:

One of the reasons we have chosen ChurchSuite is because it is secure, and ensures privacy by design. We do therefore encourage you to review your Privacy settings and set your Name and at least one means of contact to be visible so that your church community and ministries can function well. Please e-mail info@riverside-church.org.uk if you have any questions about our privacy policy or data security.

Be reassured that your name and any contact details you choose to make visible to others in My ChurchSuite…

 # Will only be visible to other church members who, like you, have been authorised and invited to access My ChurchSuite.
# That you can change your privacy settings in My ChurchSuite at any time in the future,
# That the only basic personal information that you can choose to share is your Name, Email, Mobile, Telephone and Address – no other personal details are shared (though they are visible to you),
# That while parents can manage the personal details of their children, children’s details are not visible to others, unless a child is a member of a rota or small group, in which case their name only is visible to fellow rota or group members – no further child details are ever surfaced in My ChurchSuite.
# That My ChurchSuite is secure.

Welcome: Riverside Academy Trainees

We are delighted to welcome our 2022-23 Academy trainee cohort to Riverside Church. Please do join us in praying for all that God will be doing in and through them over the course of this year ahead. They have each written a short introduction to help you get to know them better. Michelle will be joining the Riverside Performing Arts track and Zac & Rajendra will be joining the youth track. Please do join us in specifically praying for the last few bits of Rajendra’s visa application to go through so he is able to join us as soon as possible.

Zac (Youth Track)
Hi! My name is Zac and I’m a 20-year-old Brummie. I’m going to be doing the youth track with John Goodliff, learning the ins and outs of working with and guiding youth. I’d really appreciate prayer for confidence and strength from God for the start of this amazing new period in my life, while getting to know all of you.

Rajendra (Youth Track)
I am youth and worship leader of Damauli Church where I have the responsibility of planning and organizing weekly fellowship, Arranging and organizing events, church youth conference as well as I works for Damauli Khabar National Daily, I have the position of news co-subeditor. As a result, joining in Riverside Academy not just as a fantastic chance for further quality volunteering experience, but also as a commitment to hard work and a bright future in religious sector.

Michelle (Performing Arts Track)
Hi! I’m Michelle, I’m 32 and I’m from Wimborne, Dorset. I grew up in a Christian home. I trained as an actor and have worked in the industry for several years. I’ve lived in Greece, New Zealand, Australia and Germany as a result. During covid I started teaching and through that became involved in the Chaplaincy team, where I had the opportunity to perform and also to preach in chapel. It felt so right, like I finally woke up. Then I knew that God was calling me into ministry, and to use my performance skills as a tool within that. This year I hope to develop my ministry and leadership skills, learn theology, use my gifts and grow in preaching. I hope that by the end God will open the right door and I’ll have a better sense of what he wants me to be.

Sun 16 - Monthly Joint Sunday Gathering

We are please to announce that at our Monthly Joint Sunday Gathering on Sunday 16 October we will be having a guest Speaker: Phil Knox. Phil will be talking on the topic:

What is Distinctive about Christian Hope?
There’s been a lot of talk about hope recently as we have emerged slowly from the pandemic.  In a month’s time we will be at another World Cup and the hopes of a nation will be realised or dashed.  Hope is only good if it’s in the right place.  And Christian hope is in a person, and the Bible’s promise is that it makes all the difference now and forever.

About Phil Knox:
He is currently the head of mission to young adults at the Evangelical Alliance. He lives to see people come to know Jesus and Christians inspired and equipped to share their faith. He has a passion for his generation, the local church, loves learning, and has degrees in law, and mission and evangelism. Phil is married to Dani and they have two sons, Caleb and Jos. He is an avid runner and footballer, a proud Aston Villa supporter, and battles a mild coffee addiction. He is the author of Story Bearer: How to share your faith with your friends. His current passion is friendship and The Best of Friends is published in February 2023.
