Giving November

As a leadership team, we have recently been challenged about how we teach, show and live out generosity in every area of our lives, to reflect the generosity that Jesus taught all who followed him.

Giving to Riverside should not be only to cover the financial needs we face because Riverside belongs to God, and he provides. Giving is our call to honour God with what is already his, to serve the church and what God is doing through the church, and to be generous and not hold tightly to the wealth of this world.

Many of us are regular givers and generous in our giving. For that, we want to thank you. We simply ask that you do not stop there. God reminds his people in Malachi 3:10 “Test me in this, see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it”.

But for some, either new to Christianity, new to this family or just new to giving, we trust that you can feel encouraged to take that first step.

This November we simply want to create an opportunity for us all to express generosity. We are pleased to launch ‘Giving November’ and invite every member of our church family to join in as we recognise how much God has done throughout this year. Giving November is an invitation to radical generosity. We want to invite every member, across all generations, to go above and beyond and, in faith give something extra above what they already give. How much you give is up to you, anything from £1 to what God puts on your heart.

You will or might have already received in the post our annual finance update (please see Ado or ask any of the Riverside staff, or contact us here, if you haven’t received it). In this year’s update, we are reminded again of God’s faithfulness as we read through the stories and see the impact of your giving. May you be inspired and encouraged, and may this November be a month where we all step out in faith in radical generosity, both to honour God and to ask him to use the little that we have for his Kingdom.

Be blessed.

Riverside Money Advice Newsbite: The best story...

The best story … is a true story, and this one starts in the sunny country of Jamaica.

A journey with Riverside Money Advice always starts with a crisis – because there are very few people who seek help before things get to that point.

Nikki’s story started over 2 years ago, and it’s only now that we’re able to share her life story with you. Even we were surprised by the silent history that unfolded once we had set Nikki free from the debt and circumstances that she first presented us with. It is very rare…

24-7 Prayer Week: Starts 5 November

24-7 Week Of Prayer
Starts 1pm Sunday 5 November
Ends 1pm Sunday 12 November

We get a sense that now is the time when the whole church needs to come together in a concerted intentional way and pour out our hearts to God for a whole host of things. Such as about our future, the provision of the building that we are longing for, for example. We feel that alongside all that God is calling us into, that it is important to have a week together.

This link provides you with an opportunity to book a 30 minuet time slot for prayer. You can book more time slots if we wish. We encourage you to sign-up so we together as church family can cover the whole week in prayer. These have been amazing times as a church family when we have done them in the past.

The essence of prayer is not getting God to do what we want, but learning to do wat God wants.” Charles Scobie

That is what we are on our knees for. Asking God to move us forwards in this broken world, in this broken time, for the sake of God’s glory. What a week it is going to be!

Tue 7 Nov - Prayer For Persecuted Christians

We meet to pray together on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.45pm online (via Zoom). Note: Occasional meeting happen in-person at Riverside House.

Using information from Open Doors’ prayer magazine and from a number of websites dedicated to persecuted Christians, we pray for individuals we know of who are suffering, for communities that are under attack, for perpetrators of persecution and for organisations like Open Doors who provide support and assistance. Open to all, with regular attenders from a variety of churches.

On Tuesday 3 Ocober our prayers will include a request that God will “make seeing eyes blind” at the border between China and North Korea, so that relief aid, including food, medicine and clothing, can reach Christian believers and all in need in North Korea.

SIGN-UP:

You are invited. To come along simply click here and Vaughan Thomas will then contact you with the Zoom details. For the Zoom link you can also email Vaughan via vandethomas@blueyonder.co.uk
