Gardening Team Update - Thank you David!

It was in 2003 that work to build the hall on the back of Riverside House was in full swing. After completion we found ourselves with a flat blank patch of mud. We engaged the services of a garden landscaper who designed the back car park and garden as it now is. Once that was complete, David stepped in to start planting and we formed a gardening team who came in once a month to attend to upkeep. Ever since, David as been instrumental in providing plants, expertise and guidance, and looking after the team of people from across the church involved in helping.

As the work of money advice took off, we gained new members who joined in after receiving help with their finances, and during lockdown we formed a new Thursday gardening club – as much for the sanity of those who needed to get out and see people, as we needed them to increase the volume of work being carried out.

Through his passion and care, we won an award with Moseley in Bloom in 2019 for the ‘Most Flourishing Front Garden’ as  a result.

Now we’re at the end of a 20 year epoch where David shaped, built and flourished our gardens, and it’s time to start anew with a new team and allow David to hear a well done and thank you from us all.

Get Involved:
If you would be interested in joining the new Gardening Team please let us know! Your help would be hugley appreciated. Simply contact us or fill in this form via our website (Get Involved – Join A Team).

Riverside Pantry: One Year Anniversary

Riverside Pantry is currently celebrating their one year anniversary!

As the team begin 2024 there will be a few changes on the Pantry Team. Joyce Muigai will sadly be leaving the role of ‘Pantry Co-ordinator’ mid-January. We would really like to take this opportunity to thank Joyce for all the hard work and dedication she has poured into this role. She has led this role with such joy, humour and hard work. Indeed, this is a great opportunity for us to thank everyone on the team who have made the Riverside Pantry such a success for those in need, bringing help and hope for our city. Thank you!

However we are delighted to say that Samuel Sherman, who currently serves on the Pantry team and who and works for Riverside Money Advice, will be taking on the role of Pantry Co-ordinator.

Riverside Pantry one year anniversary is therefore a celebration of a year well-done, and a prayer for the new team and it provides an opportunity for you to get involved. Tue 6 Feb - Prayer For Persecuted Christians

We meet to pray together on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.45pm online (via Zoom). Note: Occasional meeting happen in-person at Riverside House.

Using information from Open Doors’ prayer magazine and from a number of websites dedicated to persecuted Christians, we pray for individuals we know of who are suffering, for communities that are under attack, for perpetrators of persecution and for organisations like Open Doors who provide support and assistance. Open to all, with regular attenders from a variety of churches.

On Tuesday 6 February our prayers we will give thanks for the 100 MPs who attended or were represented at this year’s parliamentary launch of the World Watch List report which gives details of the 50 countries where persecution of Christians is most severe. We will pray that the speeches and report will linger with MPs, provoking them to urgent, decisive and lasting action on behalf of persecuted Christians worldwide

.
