BIBLE PASSAGES: Read online
James | Chapter 2 | Verses 1-13

EXCERPT:

Christians are called to be people who love not judge. A recent study of people aged 16-29 in the United States found that 90% considered Christians to be judgmental people and for many this was a barrier to them attending churches or exploring the Christian faith further. How can we be people who show radical love to all, knowing that we have a judge who is above all but who loved us so much that he sent his son to die for every one of us?

  Bible Study Questions

Each week there are TWO different sets of questions for you to use, whether you are exploring the Bible within your Life Group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.

A | DISCUSSION STARTERS
These are simple questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk (ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group):

1 | Was there anything that particularly helped you during the talk?

2 | Was there anything that you didn’t necessarily agree with, or found difficult to understand in the talk?

3 | As a result of the talk, what:

a. Changes do you want to see?

b. Truths do you need to remember?

c. Actions do you need to take?

B | QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE
These are questions that are based on the talk and the surrounding themes:

Read James Chapter 2, verses 1-13

1 | Were there any points that stood out for you from the talk on Sunday? Was there anything you particularly agreed or disagreed with?

2 | What does James have to say about elevating the importance of some Christians? Do you see this as an issue in the UK church?

3 | How has favouritism in the church either harmed you or benefitted you?

4 | James was writing in a context where the poor were being heavily exploited by the wealthy landowners around them; hence his direct writing towards the rich and their behaviour. How does his further writing in this passage help challenge us to shift our perspective away from judgement towards radical love to all?

5 | In verse 12 & 13 James says ‘mercy triumphs over judgement’. What does/ would living this out look like in your own life?

6 | Are there any areas/ people groups you see in your own life where judgement can easily come creeping in? Pray for one another that you can be people who show radical love rather than judgement.

As you work thorugh these questions pray for one another to deepen and develop your relationship with Jesus in this year ahead.
