Real Riverside FC have entered our 18th season this year, with the difficult decision to reset the team over the summer meaning we start this season with a new look squad of players. That squad’s age range has widened significantly, at both ends of the scale!
It’s been a pleasure to have 9 graduates from the Pineapple Rules set up join Real Riverside, and a couple of Dad’s dust off their boots too. Throw in some of the existing players from previous seasons and we have a really good mix.
Pre-season was hard work but fun, manager Martin Woodruff putting us through our paces with bleep tests and pre-season games.
The season started very well, with a 4-0 home win, Ben Parker bagging a brace. Unfortunately, we haven’t won since then with three defeats on the bounce as the goals have dried up, and, despite Reuben Jones’ heroics, we’ve conceded more at the other end!
With a new look squad and many playing their first senior season of football, time to adapt and gel is inevitable, but we are enjoying the process.
A highlight has without doubt been the level of support at our games. Thank you so much. It makes a real difference having people on the side-line cheering us on.
At a time when lots of activities haven’t been able to operate, it has been a real privilege to be able to train and play football with the lads. We are taking advice from the Birmingham AFA and putting in place covid-19 appropriate procedures. We are thankful for the opportunity to play football and to build the Real Riverside community.
