Study Questions

For this week there are two different sets of questions for you to use, whether you are exploring God’s word within your Life Group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.

A. DISCUSSION STARTERS

These are simple questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk (ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group):

  1. What did you agree with in the talk, or find particularly helpful or meaningful?

  2. Was there anything in the talk that you didn’t agree with, or found difficult to understand or take in?

  3. From the talk, is there anything that you want to change or implement into your life?

B. QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE

These are questions that are based on the talk and the surrounding themes:

  1. One day a friend says to you, ‘I can’t see what God is doing, or if he is even there.’ What would you say?
  1. Read Isaiah 43:18-19. This was Riverside’s ‘verse for the year’. The context for the verse is that the nation is under threat and God is promising that he is doing a ‘new thing’. This is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus, when God steps in once and for all to make a way for people to be forgiven and at peace with him. However, it also shows us something of God’s heartbeat – to ‘…make a way in the wilderness’. However we can miss it (‘…do you not perceive it?’). In what ways might this be a huge encouragement after the year we have had?
  1. What would you say are some of the ‘new things’ that God may be doing at the moment? In your life? In the church?
  1. Read Jeremiah 32:40. This encouraging verse reminds us that even when we can’t see what is happening that God never stops doing good for his people. What do you think that could look like in your life right now?
  1. Read 2 Chronicles 20:12. At a time in which God’s people didn’t know what to do, their priorities are clear – keeping their eyes fixed on him. What might this mean for you at the moment? What might it mean for us as a church? See also Hebrews 12:1-3.
  1. Tim said the following phrase on Sunday: ‘Just because we can’t see the work that God is doing, it doesn’t mean he’s not doing it.’ In what ways can you remind yourself of this truth, and encourage others to do the same?
  1. Take some time to pray, asking that God would help you keep your eyes fixed on him, and therefore look to what God may be doing even in the middle of challenging circumstances.
