‘BIBLE PASSAGES: Read online
Daniel 3:8-12, 19-26

EXCERPT:

Everyone loves a movie with an act of courage. When the world seems against the hero, and they boldly, courageously defy the odds. But what does courage look like in our culture, without the soundtrack and camera crews? What does it take to be courageous even when under attack?

“So courage, dear heart. I know you are tired. I know the darkness is thick and the way is longer and harder than you ever expected it to be. But God sees you, he hurts with you, and he welcomes your honesty. Even to the ends of the earth, he will lead you on.” (Rebecca Reynolds)

“Without courage, we will simply accumulate a collection of good ideas and regrets.” (Andy Stanley)

BIBLE STUDY QUESTIONS

Each week there are TWO different sets of questions for you to use, whether you are exploring the Bible within your Life Group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.

A | DISCUSSION STARTERS
These are simple questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk (ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group):

1 | Was there anything that particularly helped you during the talk?

2 | Was there anything that you didn’t necessarily agree with, or found difficult to understand in the talk?

3 | As a result of the talk, what:

3a. Changes do you want to see?

3b. Truths do you need to remember?

3c. Actions do you need to take?

B | QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE
These are questions that are based on the talk and the surrounding themes:

  1. Do you have any phobias?
  2. Why did Nebuchadnezzar want to kill Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in such a public and brutal way?
  3. Who was the fourth man in the furnace?
  4. Why did the king refer to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, as servants of the Most High God. Which other gods did he have in mind?
  5. Read Daniel 3:17-18. How certain were Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that God would deliver them, before their courage was tested?
  6. After Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego survived the furnace. What effect would this have had on the Jewish community?
  7. Think of an example where NOT doing something is courageous?
  8. Explore this definition of courage: True courage is moving forward in the face of fear. You still feel fear, but you are determined.
  9. Pray about small courageous acts that we could do that would be a blessing to others.

As you explore these questions, pray for one another to deepen and develop your relationship with Jesus.
