BIBLE PASSAGES: Read online
Luke Chapter 11, verses 9-13
Psalm 57
EXCERPT:
When you’re lost at night there’s two things you need – to know the way to go, and to know you’re not alone. Jesus guaranteed us both when he promised his Holy Spirit – to lead, and to accompany us. What does that mean in practice?
Bible Study Questions
We invite you to use the below questions to provoke discussion together out of the talk. Ideal if you are watching our Sunday Service online with others in your group, in other group settings, or simply using them on your own.
1 | The Comedian Frank Skinner writes, ‘…my problem is I never know if I’m speaking to the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit. Or indeed some combination of these, up there in Heaven, on a sort of conference call.’ What common perceptions are there about the Holy Spirit?
2 | Read Luke 11:9-13. What do you think Jesus’ point might be in v13? What role does the Holy Spirit play in helping us to know what to ask for? (v 9-12)
3 | In what ways might the Holy Spirit be the greatest answer to any prayer that we may have?
4 | Read Psalm 57 and Galatians 4:4-6. According to Paul in Galatians 4:4-6, what are the two aspects that God ‘sends’? How does that illuminate Psalm 57:2-3?
5 | What do the two ways that God ‘sends’ show us about his heart, and about the role of the Spirit in our lives today?
6 | What do you think it means to be dependant on the Holy Spirit this week?
7 | Take some time to pray. Ask that God would lead you, by his Spirit, as you read the bible and take steps of faith this week.
